Old Mission Bakery was born of necessity. We started out as a cottage industry on old orchard land in the heart of the Old Mission Peninsula in 2009 as a result of the 2008 market crash.
What began as a way to keep our family afloat financially, quickly morphed into our passion. Naturally filtered well water, freshly milled grains and building relationships with local food producers while working with our family became the foundation for our thriving Northern Michigan bakery.
Fun fact: all of our children gave up a year of college to help us get started back in the day.
Today
Well! That first decade flew by fast! We still produce some of the best bread on planet earth. And we are still family run; However, we now proudly support nine local families on a living wage.
Actually, we support thousands of local families in a few ways. Not only does Old Mission Bakery support every vendor, family farm and buisness where we purchase our local ingredients, we also support families across the five-county region via daily Food Rescue deliveries to their neighborhood pantry. We are incredibly proud of our all natural, hand shaped, locally sourced loaves.
But what thrills us most is this place, the community and the Grand Traverse region that made it possible for a business like ours to realize sustained success. We are grateful to call Traverse City home.
